Bottom line

Your records get reviewed on a schedule, and some of the work is on you. Your administrative records get a formal audit at least every three years, plus a lighter screening every year. You are required by law to keep your Civilian Employment Information (CEI) current, and your pay must go through direct deposit. Keep your contact info, employment info, and personal records up to date so a review never holds you up.

What it means for you

This chapter covers the things that apply across the Reserve (SELRES, IRR, and Standby), not just one sub-component. For you, three things matter most. First, your records will be audited and screened, usually around your anniversary month, so keep them accurate. Second, you must update your Civilian Employment Information (CEI) every year or whenever your job changes, whichever comes first. This is a legal requirement, and missing it can stall your AT orders, schools, reenlistment, or a tour extension because unit leaders confirm your CEI is in before they endorse those requests. Third, your pay goes through direct deposit unless you qualify for a rare waiver.
