Bottom line
Chapter 4 ends with 13 figures. Four are point-reference tables (which duty earns points, and how many). The rest are sample letters and a process map you can copy when you submit a request. This grid maps each type of duty to the reserve categories that can earn membership/retirement points from it: Ready Reserve (SELRES: SMCR and IMA; and IRR) and Standby Reserve (ASL and ISL).
Duty types covered, by group:
- Inactive Duty / IDT: Regularly Scheduled drill, ATP, AFTP, RMP, Associate Duty*, Appropriate Duty*, Muster Duty, FHD.
- Active Duty / ADT: AT, IADT, OTD, RCT; ADOT: ADOS; and Involuntary AD.
- *Associate Duty, Appropriate Duty, and some ADOS entries are non-pay status, but retirement points are still awarded.
Figure 4-1 tells you which reserve categories can earn points for each type of duty.

Figure 4-2: Minimum Points to Establish a Partial Anniversary Year (PDF p106)
A lookup table: given the number of days in an active status (a From–Thru day range), it gives the minimum points required for that partial anniversary year to count as qualifying service. Referenced by Chapter 4, Section 7, para 3.e.(2).
Figure 4-2 tells you the minimum points needed when your year is shorter than 12 months.
