Update your religious affiliation code in MOL within 45 days

MARADMIN 451/26·September 29, 2026·2 min read·Official source

The Marine Corps transitioned to a revised set of Religious Affiliation Codes (RAC) on 17 August 2026, replacing the old Faith and Belief Codes with 31 standardized options. Your old code has been cleared. You need to go into MOL and pick a new one. If you don't, the system will assign one for you automatically based on guidance from the Department of Defense.

★ Affects all reservists: Log into MOL and update your RAC within 45 days of 25 September 2026 or the system will assign one for you.

Who it affects

Every RC Marine, regardless of component, rank, or MOS. This is a mandatory update for all hands. Deployed Marines and those on extended leave get a pass on the deadline but must update immediately upon return.

What you need to do

Complete these steps in MOL:

  1. Log in at https://mol.tfs.usmc.mil
  2. Select the Personal Information tab.
  3. Under Personal Updates, select Religion.
  4. Choose the RAC that best fits you and submit.

That's it. The update goes straight to your official personnel record. You can change it again later at any time after the initial selection window closes.

Key dates

  • 17 August 2026: New RAC list went live across all Military Departments. Old codes cleared.
  • 45 days from 25 September 2026 (deadline: on or around 9 November 2026): RC Marines must complete their selection. Verify the exact date with your unit S-1.

The official version

This guidance comes from MARADMIN 451/26. It supersedes MARADMIN 361/26. The implementing memo from USD P&R (dated 27 August 2026) and the DASN direction (dated 14 September 2025) are the driving documents. POCs at HQMC are CWO4 Christopher Mertins at christopher.mertins@usmc.mil / 703-432-9176 and Mr. Jimmy Robinson at jimmy.robinson1@usmc.mil / 703-432-9817.

This is written by a reservist, for reservists. It is not an official publication of HQMC or MARFORRES. Always verify guidance with your command or unit S-1 before acting on any article or summary.
