The Marine Corps is implementing a DoD-directed overhaul of Religious Affiliation Codes (RAC). The Under Secretary of War for Personnel and Readiness ordered the consolidation of more than 200 individual faith and belief designations into 30 broader categories, effective 8 June 2026. Because of the consolidation, your current code may no longer exist as a standalone designation. Every Marine is directed to log into MOL and review or update their RAC by 30 September 2026.
★ Affects all reservists: Every Marine must log into MOL and update their religious affiliation code by 30 September 2026, or their record will reflect whatever the system defaulted to after consolidation.
Who it affects
All Marines, all components. SMCR, IMA, IRR, active, everyone. No rank or MOS carve-outs.
What you need to do
Log into MOL and update your RAC. The steps:
- Log into Marine OnLine (MOL).
- Select the Personal Information tab.
- Under Personal Updates, select Religion.
- Choose the most appropriate code from the updated list and submit.
The update goes directly into your official personnel record. It takes a few minutes. Do it before 30 September.
If you are an NCO, SNCO, or commander: you are required to make sure your Marines know about this and have a reasonable opportunity to complete it within the timeline.
Key dates
- 8 June 2026: DoD directed the consolidation of RACs.
- 30 September 2026: Deadline for all Marines to review and update their RAC in MOL.
