DD Form 2875 is being retired. NIS takes over by September 2027.

MARADMIN 541/26·October 30, 2026·2 min read·Official source

The Marine Corps has directed the mandatory retirement of the DD Form 2875, the manual System Access Authorization Request (SAAR) form used to request IT system access. It's being replaced by an automated workflow through Naval Identity Services (NIS), a Department of the Navy identity and access management platform. This follows a DON-wide mandate. The deadline is 30 September 2027.

Heads up: If your unit or program still uses paper DD 2875s to request system access, that process has to be replaced with NIS by 30 September 2027.

Who it affects

This one is primarily aimed at the people managing IT systems, not the average reservist requesting access. Specifically:

  • Functional Area Managers (FAMs), Program Managers, and System Owners responsible for NIPRNET systems
  • Commands and programs that currently use DD Form 2875 to authorize user access to Marine Corps IT systems

If you're a regular reservist who just fills out the form when you need access to a system, your experience will change downstream when your command transitions, but you're not the one responsible for making the switch happen.

What you need to do

If you're a FAM, Program Manager, or System Owner:

  1. Plan your transition to the NIS automated SAAR workflow before the 30 September 2027 deadline.
  2. Coordinate with the NIS Program Office to complete integration milestones for your systems.
  3. Stop using manual DD Form 2875 processes once your system is integrated. The deadline is a hard cutoff, not a suggestion.

If you're a unit S-6 or IT point of contact, now is the time to understand where your systems stand and whether your FAM has a transition plan.

For most rank-and-file reservists: nothing to do right now. Just know the process for requesting system access will change before FY28.

Key dates

  • 30 September 2027: Hard deadline to complete NIS transition and retire DD Form 2875 processes across all NIPRNET systems.
