HQMC has announced meritorious promotion allocations for FY27. This covers three groups: Prior Service Recruiters (PSR), Extended Active Duty (EAD) recruiters under Marine Corps Recruiting Command, and SMCR SNCOs under MARFORRES. Commands will convene local selection boards, nominate Marines, and submit packages to MMPB-11 for CMC review and approval.
Bottom line: A small number of SSgt and GySgt meritorious promotion slots are available for FY27. If you're in one of the covered groups, talk to your commander now about timelines and eligibility.
Who it affects
This applies to:
- EAD recruiters under Marine Corps Recruiting Command
- PSR under Marine Corps Recruiting Command
- SMCR SNCOs (SSgt and GySgt eligible) under MARFORRES
Marines already selected by a regular promotion board are still eligible for meritorious promotion to that grade, as long as their seniority number hasn't been reached yet.
What you need to do
If you think you qualify, talk to your commander. Nominations go up through the chain as naval correspondence to MMPB-11. Each package must include:
Rank, Name, EDIPI, MCC/Unit, PME Complete, OBS
One hard requirement: you must have at least 24 months of obligated service remaining on your contract from the date of promotion. If you're short on time, you're not eligible.
