MARADMIN 471/26·October 1, 2026·2 min read·Official source

The DC I's Chief Data and AI Office (CDAO) is accepting nominations for the 2027-1 cohort of the Marine Corps AI Fellowship at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). It's a five-month, mostly remote fellowship focused on project-based AI research. Selected Marines work in interdisciplinary teams to build algorithms, tools, and solutions tied to real mission problems. Applications close October 30.

Heads up: This program is active duty only. Reserve Marines (SMCR, IMA, IRR) are not eligible under current requirements.

Who it affects

This one is for active duty only: officers (O1-O5), enlisted (E4-E8), and warrant officers (CWO1-5). GS-5 through GS-14 civilians are also eligible. Reserve component Marines do not meet the eligibility requirements as written.

To be eligible, you also need:

  • A completed MOS (no student or training MOS like 7599)
  • Not passed over for promotion, and no approved resignation or retirement on file
  • A command-endorsed, unclassified AI use case with associated data ready to work
  • Remote/telework capability (personal computer and internet connection required throughout)
  • At least 20 months of obligated service at the program start date (to cover the 5-month fellowship plus a 15-month post-fellowship service obligation)

  1. Develop an unclassified, command-endorsed AI use case as your primary project.
  2. Get an endorsement letter signed by your first O-6 commander in the chain of command.
  3. Submit your application through the portal at https://forms.osi.apps.mil/r/KuXD4BgLmg
