The Marine Corps is soliciting nominations for the FY27 Risk Management Safety Officer (RMSO) pilot course, a new 10-day course designed to professionalize personnel running ground safety and standardization programs. This is a pilot, meaning it's the first run of a course being built out ahead of a broader FY28 requirement. If your unit has a ground safety billet or you're responsible for a risk management program, this is worth knowing about.
Heads up: Nomination packages are due to commands by 23 October 2026, and being nominated doesn't guarantee a seat.
Who it affects
The target population is USMC and USN E6 through E8, and O3 through O4 who are appointed as Ground Department of Safety and Standardization (DOSS) leads, or who own their unit's risk management, safety, or standardization program. For this FY27 pilot only, ground commanders can also attend regardless of rank or billet, since the Ground Safety Commander's course won't exist until FY28. The course is open to Marine Corps units and designated Navy personnel supporting Marine Corps safety programs. The course has 50 seats total.
