FY27 Ground Safety for Marines Course Schedule Is Out

MARADMIN 452/26·September 29, 2026·4 min read·Official source

The Marine Corps has published the FY27 schedule for the Ground Safety for Marines (GSM) course. This is the required training for anyone appointed in writing as a Command Ground Safety Officer or Ground Safety Manager. Seven installations are hosting sessions from October 2026 through September 2027. If that billet applies to you or someone in your unit, now is the time to get a seat locked in.

Heads up: CMC Safety Division does NOT register students. You must contact the installation safety office directly, no later than 30 working days before the course start date.

Who it affects

E-6 through E-8, O-1 through O-5, and WO-1 through CWO-3 (or GS equivalent) who have been appointed in writing as a Command Ground Safety Officer or Ground Safety Manager. One firm requirement: you must have at least 12 months left in your assigned billet after the course ends.

This is relevant for reserve commands. MARFORRES in New Orleans hosts its own sessions with a blended format built for the RC.

What you need to do

  1. Confirm whether you or someone in your unit holds a written appointment as Command Ground Safety Officer or Ground Safety Manager.
  2. Pick a location and session date from the schedule below.
  3. Contact that installation's safety office directly to register. Do not go through CMC Safety Division.
  4. Submit your registration no later than 30 working days before your chosen start date.

MARFORRES note: The New Orleans sessions are a blended format. You must complete Phase I online first via the Marine Corps eLearning Enterprise (MCeLE), course ID CMCSDGSMP1. The resident week in New Orleans is Phase II only.
