The Marine Corps has released the FY27 schedule for the Ground Mishap Investigation Course (GMIC). This course teaches root cause analysis to personnel appointed in writing as their command's Ground Safety Officer or Ground Safety Manager. It runs at seven locations from fall 2026 through fall 2027.
Heads up: Enrollment procedures vary by installation, so contact the site POC directly. Do not assume a central registration process.
Who it affects
USMC and USN personnel in the E-6 to E-8 or O-1 to O-5 range who have been formally appointed in writing as their command's Ground Safety Officer or Ground Safety Manager. GS civilian equivalents are also eligible. If you hold that billet, this course is for you. If you don't, pass this to whoever does.
This includes RC Marines. The MARFORRES site in New Orleans has four sessions scheduled, which makes it the most accessible option for SMCR and IMA Marines who need to coordinate AT or additional IDT days around a civilian schedule.
What you need to do
- Confirm whether you are formally appointed in writing as your command's Ground Safety Officer or Ground Safety Manager.
- Pick the location and session that works for your schedule.
- Contact the site POC directly for enrollment. Each installation handles registration differently.
- Submit your enrollment request before the deadline for your chosen session. Deadlines typically run two weeks before the course start date.
