The Marine Corps is observing National Insider Threat Awareness Month (NITAM) this September under the theme "Protect Our Potential." This is a Total Force effort. Commanders are expected to push training and events, and every Marine is expected to know what a potential risk indicator (PRI) looks like and what to do when they see one.
★ Affects all reservists: If you see behavior that could be a PRI, you don't ignore it. You gather context, loop in your chain of command, and report through established channels.
Who it affects
All Marines, all components. Active, SMCR, IMA, IRR. This one is Total Force.
What you need to do
If you're a commander or unit leader:
- Promote NITAM events and training to your Marines throughout September.
- Review available events, virtual workshops, and training at
https://www.information.marines.mil/Units/Insider-threat/Events. - If you want on-site training, request it from the POCs listed below or by emailing
insiderthreat@usmc.mil. On-site support runs through December 2026.
If you're an individual Marine:
Know the concept of PRIs. Most malicious insiders show observable warning signs before they act. Examples the MARADMIN cites include misplaced anger, declining performance, and compliance violations. If you see something that fits, don't look the other way. Gather context, talk to your chain of command, and report it. A full list of PRIs and reporting protocols is at https://www.information.marines.mil/Units/Insider-Threat/.
Key dates
- September 2026: NITAM observance month. Units should be running awareness and training this month.
- Through December 2026: On-site training support available from the Marine Corps Insider Threat Program (MCInTP) upon request.
