HQMC's WARR-SF (Warrior Athlete Readiness and Resilience-Semper Fit) Branch is recruiting athletes and coaches for the 2027 Military World Games, running 25 June through 4 July 2027 across venues in North and South Carolina. This covers 19 sports. All costs, including airfare, lodging, uniforms, and equipment, are covered by HQMC and Armed Forces Sports.

Heads up: Reserve Marines (SMCR and IMA, not IRR) are eligible, but your command must put you on active-duty orders for operational support or a similar status before you can participate or receive travel funds.

Who it affects

All active duty, active reserve, and activated reserve Marines. SMCR and IMA Marines are eligible. IRR Marines are not.

Coaching positions are open to Marines E-6 and above, and to civilians. Athlete slots are open to Marines of any grade who can demonstrate competitive-level skill and prior experience.

What you need to do

If you want to compete as an athlete:

  1. Get your commanding officer's approval to apply.
  2. Submit your application with proof of prior competitive experience (high school, collegiate, Olympic, etc.) and any relevant awards.
  3. Apply no later than 1 December 2026.

If you want to coach:

  1. Confirm you are E-6 or above (required for Marine coaches).
  2. Get your commanding officer's approval.
  3. Apply as soon as possible. The MARADMIN does not specify a coaching deadline, so contact the POCs below to confirm timing.

If you are a reserve Marine (SMCR or IMA):

  • Coordinate with your command early. You must be placed on active-duty orders before you can participate or receive TAD travel funds. This is a command-level action, not something you can arrange yourself.

Trial camp dates, locations, and host service details are still forthcoming. Check the Armed Forces Sports events calendar at https://armedforcessports.defense.gov/ for updates.
