FY27 Marine Corps Lessons Learned collection priorities announced

The Marine Corps Center for Lessons Learned (MCCLL), under TECOM, has published its FY27 Collection Campaign Plan (CCP). The plan lists the specific operations, exercises, and topics that MCCLL analysts will formally study this fiscal year. It also reminds all units that timely AAR submission is a standing requirement and a key input to how the Marine Corps adapts doctrine, training, and force design.

Heads up: Two collections directly involve Reserve forces: the MARFORRES Mobilization Exercise 2027 (Q4) and the VMFA-112 UDP 27.1 (Q4).

Who it affects

Most reservists are not directly affected. This is primarily a heads-up for:

  • MARFORRES units and their subordinates involved in the Mobilization Exercise 2027 (Q4 FY27)
  • VMFA-112 and supporting MAW units involved in UDP 27.1 (Q4 FY27)
  • Any unit that conducts operations, exercises, MCCREs, or home station training, since AAR submission applies to everyone

The broader collection list covers active component MEFs, MEUs, MLRs, and MARFORs. Reserve units not on the list still own the AAR requirement.

What you need to do

For most reservists: nothing immediate. Be aware this program exists.

If your unit is participating in a listed exercise or operation:

  1. Expect MCCLL analysts to coordinate with your command on collection support.
  2. Use the AAR template from the MCCLL SharePoint site, not a locally created format. Using the standard template improves how AI and machine learning tools process the data.
  3. Submit AARs to MCCLL promptly after events. Late or missing AARs are a gap in the record.
  4. If your command doesn't have an embedded MCCLL analyst, contact the group mailbox at SMB_MCCLL_OPS@usmc.mil.

Units wanting to flag a systemic training trend for the Trend Reversal and Reinforcement Process (TRRP) can submit using the unresolved trends template on the MCCLL NIPR site (see link below, under the MCCLL Templates dropdown).

  • Q4 FY27: MARFORRES Mobilization Exercise 2027 collection window
  • Q4 FY27: VMFA-112 UDP 27.1 collection window
  • Every 6 months: MCCLL publishes trend reports synthesizing AAR submissions
  • Note: Operation Epic Fury (31st MEU) was moved from FY27 to Q4 FY26
