The White House Military Office (WHMO) has one open billet for a Presidential Weather Operator, and the Marine Corps is soliciting nominations now. This position supports the President, Vice President, and other principals with 24/7 worldwide weather forecast services. It's a 36-month tour with a desired report date of October 2027.

Bottom line: If you hold PMOS 6842 and are an E-4 through E-6, your nomination package is due to the METOC OccFld Manager by 1 September 2026.

Who it affects

This is a narrow, specific callout. You must meet all of the following:

  • PMOS 6842 (Meteorological and Oceanographic Analyst Forecaster)
  • Corporal (E-4) through Staff Sergeant (E-6)
  • Two years time on station at your current duty
  • Eligible for a Top-Secret clearance based on a Tier 5 investigation and SCI access
  • U.S. citizen
  • Extensive experience supporting expeditionary operations and aviation

There is one billet. Six nominees will be forwarded to OSD and WHMO for a two-day in-person interview. WHMO makes the final call.

What you need to do

Your nomination package goes to the METOC OccFld Manager and Specialist via the USMC SharePoint link in the MARADMIN. Name your files using this exact convention:

EDIPI_LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_MI_RANK

Example: 1234567890_SMITH_JOHN_A_SGT

Your package must include:

  1. Signed memorandum from your CO verifying you meet eligibility criteria
  2. Volunteer letter with a personal statement
  3. Completed WHMO Form 2 (Certificate of Medical Officer, revised 1 Jul 22)
  4. Certification of security clearance, including adjudication history
  5. SCI Nominee Screening Interview Letter
  6. Signed and dated HIPAA Release Form
  7. If you do not already have a TS/SCI adjudication based on a Tier 5 investigation: a completed SF-86 certified within one year of submission, with all release forms signed within 90 days of submission
  8. Professional resume
  9. Service Member Master Brief Sheet with your last five FitReps

A sample nomination package is available at the USMC SharePoint site listed in MARADMIN 372/26. Note: that SharePoint link requires a .mil network connection.

One thing to flag on TDY costs: if you're selected as one of the six for the WHMO in-person interview, your parent command is responsible for funding that TDY. Confirm with your chain of command before assuming travel is covered.

Key dates
