The Marine Corps has opened FY27 solicitation for lateral moves into PMOS 1751, Influence Specialist. M&RA has designated 1751 a critical career force skill shortage, and the need for qualified Marines is expected to stay high. Influence Specialists plan and conduct psychological operations (PSYOP) and civil affairs operations (CAO) in support of the MAGTF and other commanders. This is a competitive process with a structured screening and assessment.

Heads up: Reserve Marines are eligible to apply, but approval requires a switch to active duty.

Who it affects

Corporals and Sergeants from any MOS, active or reserve, who meet all of the following:

  • GT score of 100 or higher
  • First class PFT and CFT on record
  • Secret clearance held, TS-SCI eligible
  • Worldwide assignable and deployable
  • Willing to obligate at least 60 months of service via reenlistment (extensions are not eligible for SRB)
  • Sergeants must not be in zone for Staff Sergeant

This MARADMIN is Total Force. Reserve Marines who apply and are approved must switch to active duty.

What you need to do

  1. Review the MOS manual and program details at the 17XX Careers site.
  2. Contact your career planner to start the lateral move process.
  3. Request the screening and assessment (S&A) documents from the MOS Specialist or email OMB_IMD_INFLUENCEOCCFIELDSLATMOVE@USMC.MIL.

    • Marine Corps professional resume
    • Security clearance verification letter from your Command Security Officer or Special Security Officer
  6. Receive a favorable endorsement from the 1751 MOS Specialist to be recommended for lateral move.

Physical events required for the screener: Marine Corps PFT, official height/weight, five-mile run under 45 minutes, and a six-mile ruck with at least 35 lbs dry weight at a 15-minute-per-mile pace or faster.
