The August 2026 SNCO promotion message is out for AR, SMCR, and IRR Marines. Commanders are authorized to effect promotions on or after 1 August 2026. The message also includes projected promotion numbers through October 2026 for planning purposes.

Heads up: Promotions cannot happen before 1 August 2026, and you must have an active contract expiring 31 July 2028 or later to be promoted.

Who it affects

Any SNCO on an FY25 or FY26 selection list across AR, SMCR, or IRR components. Grades covered include SSgt through SgtMaj/MGySgt, depending on component and list status. Not all lists have active promotions this month. Several FY26 SMCR and IRR lists are still pending results of a selection MARADMIN (shown as Note 4 in the source).

What you need to do

If you're a commander: effect promotions on or after 1 August 2026 per paragraph 5100 of MCO P1400.32D. Cite MARADMIN 326/26 as your promotion authority.

If you're a selectee: confirm your seniority number was reached, and verify your contract expiration meets the 31 July 2028 threshold. If you haven't met Obligated Service (OBS) requirements by the time your number comes up, your date of rank and effective date will be pushed to the 1st of the month after you comply.

For OBS details, commander requirements, or promotion backdate requests, go to the Enlisted Promotions page at https://www.manpower.marines.mil and navigate to Divisions / Manpower Management / Performance-Branch / Promotion-Section / Enlisted Promotions / SNCOs.
