The Marine Corps is convening its FY28 Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) promotion selection boards at Quantico on 11 August 2026. These boards will consider active-duty list (ADL) CWOs for promotion to CWO3, CWO4, and CWO5 by MOS and grade. If you're a CWO on the ADL, this board may consider you, and your deadline to get anything to the board is 31 July.
Heads up: If you're an ADL CWO with a separation or approved retirement date within 90 days of 11 August 2026, you will not be considered by this board.
Who it affects
ADL CWOs only. This board does not cover Reserve Component CWOs. Specifically:
- CWO5 board: Considers CWO4s in MOS zones listed in the MARADMIN. Several MOSs have no CWO5 board this cycle (see paragraph 2.b of the MARADMIN for the full exclusion list).
- CWO4 board: Considers CWO3s. Several MOSs include BZ consideration (0170, 0210, 0630, 1310, 2305, 3510, 4503, 5805, 6302).
- CWO3 board: Considers CWO2s (covered under the same convening authority).
The board considers AZ, IZ, and BZ officers by MOS. AZ officers not previously considered are treated as IZ. Your specific IZ window (SR IZ and JR IZ lineal control numbers) is listed by MOS in the MARADMIN. Check paragraph 2.a for CWO5 and paragraph 2.c for CWO4 to see where you fall.
Officers with a separation date within 90 days of 11 August 2026, or an approved retirement date, are not eligible.
What you need to do
If you're an ADL CWO who may be in zone, or BZ eligible:
- Check your MOS section in the MARADMIN to confirm your zone status (AZ, IZ, or BZ) using your lineal control number (LCN) against the SR IZ and JR IZ listed.
- Review your record for anything you want the board to see. Board correspondence (letters to the board, photo, etc.) must be submitted by 31 July 2026.
- Confirm your fitness report record is complete. MCO 1610.7B (the Performance Evaluation System order) governs what the board sees.
- Verify your PME and physical fitness records are current. Reference F (the PFT/Body Composition change notice) is cited, so confirm nothing in your record is flagged there.
