The Marine Corps is looking for SNCOs to fill an instructor billet at the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI), the joint schoolhouse that trains service members and civilians on military equal opportunity principles. This is a special duty assignment. The billet rank is E7, but E6 through E8 Marines can apply. Packages are due 28 August 2026.

Heads up: This is a niche opportunity with specific prerequisites, mainly prior EOA (equal opportunity advisor) service and completion of the DEOMI Equal Opportunity Advisor Course.

Who it affects

SNCOs in grades E6 (Staff Sergeant) through E8 (Master Sergeant) who meet all of the following:

  • Completed the DEOMI Equal Opportunity Advisor Course
  • Completed at least one successful tour as an EOA, or currently serving as one
  • Completed a military instructor training course, SDA, or equivalent instructional experience
  • At least three years of military service remaining upon assignment
  • Holds an associate degree or equivalent college credit or experience

Reserve Marines are not explicitly excluded, but this is a Special Duty Assignment. If you are SMCR or IMA and interested, talk to your unit Career Planner and S-1 before building a package.

What you need to do

Your command nominates you. You cannot self-submit. Here is what the package requires:

  1. Nomination letter endorsed by the first general officer in your chain of command
  2. Concise resume of qualifications (billet descriptions, accomplishments)
  3. One-page autobiography
  4. Basic Individual Record and Basic Training Record
  5. Pages 3, 11, 12, and 13 from your OMPF (in that order)

Letters of recommendation are optional but accepted.

Templates for the nomination letter, resume, and autobiography are available by request at mpe_eo@usmc.mil.

Packages are submitted electronically through the Total Force Retention System (TFRS) under the "Special Duty Assignment / EOA Duty" RELM option, routed through your unit Career Planner to MMEA-25.
