CD&I has published a list of approved Irregular Warfare and Competition (IW/C) specialty training courses that any Marine can apply for. These are voluntary elective courses, not a new requirement. The goal is to build the Corps' depth in IW/C as DoD policy pushes the services to treat irregular warfare as a core competency. Courses come from both military and non-military organizations.
Heads up: These are optional courses you can seek out, not a mandate, but completing them gets tracked in MCTIMS under an assigned school code.
Who it affects
All Marines, total force. That includes SMCR, IMA, and IRR. No rank or MOS restriction is mentioned. If you have interest or relevant duties in IW/C, this is worth looking at.
What you need to do
- Go to the IW/C SharePoint site (linked under the training tab):
https://usmc.sharepoint-mil.us/sites/DCCDI/SitePages/Irregular-Warfare-and-Competition.aspx - Browse the approved course list.
- Register for any course that fits your schedule and development goals.
- Completion is tracked in MCTIMS using an assigned Service School Code (SSC) or Local School Code (LSC), so make sure your training record gets updated after you finish.
Note: This is a .mil SharePoint link. You will need CAC access and a network connection that can reach it.
Key dates
No application deadline or enrollment window is stated in the MARADMIN. Courses appear to be available on a rolling basis. Check the site for individual course schedules.
