The Marine Corps has announced the FY28 Regular Colonel Continuation Board, convening 9 July 2026 at Quantico. This board considers active duty colonels whose mandatory separation/retirement (MSR) dates fall in calendar year 2028. Paragraph 8 of the MARADMIN states plainly that it does not apply to the Marine Corps Reserve.

Heads up: This board does not affect reservists. No action required.

Who it affects

No reservists. This is an active component board for Regular colonels with MSR dates between 1 January 2028 and 31 December 2028. SMCR, IMA, and IRR Marines are explicitly excluded.

If you are a Reserve colonel and have questions about your own continuation eligibility or MSR, contact your unit S-1 or career monitor through MMOA. This board is not the answer.

What you need to do

Nothing. If you are a Reserve Marine, this MARADMIN does not apply to you.

Key dates

  • 9 July 2026: Board convenes (active duty only)

  • Title 10, United States Code (Title 10 U.S.C.)Reference

The foundational federal law governing military personnel matters, including continuation on active duty. This MARADMIN cites it as the legal authority for the Colonel Continuation board process.

  • Continuation on Active Duty of Regular and Reserve Commissioned Officers (SECNAVINST 1920.7C)Reference

The Secretary of the Navy instruction that governs how Regular and Reserve commissioned officers may be continued on active duty. This MARADMIN establishes the FY28 board procedures in accordance with it.

  • Separation and Retirement Manual (MCO 1900.16 CH3)Reference

The Marine Corps order covering separation and retirement policy. It is cited as governing authority for the continuation and retirement actions described in this MARADMIN.

  • Transition to O-RMA for OMPF Records Management (MARADMIN 412/23)MARADMIN

The earlier MARADMIN that directed the shift from the old optical imaging system to the Official Military Professional File Records Management Application (O-RMA) for storing and viewing personnel records. This MARADMIN references it because officers must use O-RMA to review their OMPF and MBS before the board convenes.

  • The CAC-enabled online portal where eligible colonels can submit correspondence to the President of the Continuation Board. Correspondence must be received by MMPB-10 no later than 28 June 2026.

  • The Official Military Professional File Records Management Application portal where officers can access and review their own personnel record and Master Brief Sheet. This MARADMIN identifies it as the most expeditious way to verify record accuracy before the board convenes.
