HQMC is slating Marines to fill instructor and staff billets at the United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, MD, and the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS) in Newport, RI for Academic Year 2027-2028. The panel convenes on or about 3 June 2026. Applications close at 2359 on 31 May 2026.
Bottom line: If you are a competitive active-duty officer (O2-O4) or a Staff Sergeant or Gunnery Sergeant interested in a USNA or NAPS billet, you have until 31 May 2026 to apply — but officers must get monitor approval before submitting.
Who it affects
This is an active-duty slating action. It is not a Reserve billet. That said, if you are an IMA or SMCR Marine considering augmentation or active-duty assignments, or if you have Marines in your network this fits, pass it along.
For the record, here is who is eligible:
Officers (O2-O4): Must complete their current tour control factor by 30 September 2027, be in-zone or selected for the applicable grade, have no adverse material, and have career timing that supports a full 36-month tour. Billets requiring a master's degree are noted below. Officers applying for the LEAD master's program need a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA.
Enlisted Marines: Must be a regular active-duty Staff Sergeant or Gunnery Sergeant with a GT score of 100 or higher, a current first-class PFT score, at least 36 months in PMOS since their last SDA tour, and 36 months TOS at estimated date of departure. Additional billet-specific requirements apply (see below).

A note on body composition
The board is using the new Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHtR) standard instead of height and weight. The Digital Boardroom cannot automatically pull WHtR data, so the board will not hold it against you if that measurement is not in your record. Previous height and weight entries and fitness reports with WHtR comments will still be considered. If you want your current WHtR on record, update your OMPF photo.
