The Marine Corps updated and extended the Enlisted Career Designation Program pilot into FY27 with MARADMIN 190/26. The ECDP lets eligible senior enlisted Marines serve continuously through their Enlisted Career Force Controls (ECFC) date instead of reenlisting repeatedly. This update changes only the eligibility criteria. Everything else from the original pilot (MARADMIN 076/25) stays in place.
Heads up: If you're an E-8 or E-9 with an ECC before 30 September 2027, check whether you now qualify for the ECDP.
Who it affects
This applies to active component senior enlisted Marines at E-8 and E-9 with an End of Current Contract (ECC) before 30 September 2027. Specifically:
- Newly selected MSgt/1stSgt (E-8) with at least 15 years of service
- Current MSgt/1stSgt (E-8) with either at least 2 years time in grade or at least 15 years of service
- Current MGySgt/SgtMaj (E-9) with either at least 2 years time in grade or at least 15 years of service
The MARADMIN does not explicitly address Reserve component applicability. If you're SELRES or IMA at E-8 or E-9 and think this could apply to you, check with your S-1 or contact the POCs below.
What you need to do
If you meet the criteria above, you can elect to enter the ECDP at your next reenlistment. This is not automatic. Talk to your career planner and verify eligibility before your ECC.
