Fuel consumption planning factors updated for all Marine Corps equipment

The Marine Corps just released updated fuel consumption factors for its entire aircraft and ground equipment inventory. The old figures dated back to a 2010 study, and a lot has changed since then: new equipment fielded, old equipment divested, operational tempos shifted. Planners at every level are directed to use the new data immediately for all fuel-related planning.

Bottom line: If you do any fuel, logistics, supply, or operations planning, stop using the old factors and switch to the updated data now.

Who it affects

This is primarily a planner's issue. If you work in logistics, supply, engineer, or operations planning at any echelon, this affects your work directly. That includes MAGTF staff planners, unit-level S-4s, and anyone building fuel estimates for exercises, contingencies, or operational plans. The MARADMIN applies to the Marine Corps enterprise, which includes the RC.

Most reservists at the individual Marine level will not feel this directly. Drill weekends and AT planning that involves fuel estimates, however, should now reflect the updated factors.

What you need to do

If you are a planner of any type, take these steps:

  1. Access the updated consumption factors on the DC I&L Logistics Plans, Policies, Engineer and EOD Branch (LPE) SharePoint page (link is on the .mil network, provided in the MARADMIN).
  2. Stop using factors derived from the 2010 MAGTF Bulk Fuel Requirements Study as your primary reference.
  3. Apply the new data to all active planning products: budgets, wargames, petroleum war reserve requirements (PWRR), exercise planning, and contingency estimates.
  4. For questions on specific equipment data, direct liaison with HQMC program offices is authorized.

If you are not a planner, no action is required.

Key dates

  • Effective immediately upon release (31 March 2026).
  • Remains in effect until superseded.
