The Marine Corps released its FY26 approved selection list for promotion to gunnery sergeant on 10 March 2026. This is the active component list. If you are SMCR, IMA, or IRR, this one is not for you.
Heads up: Paragraph 12 of this MARADMIN states explicitly that it does not apply to the Marine Corps Reserve.
Who it affects
Active component staff sergeants selected for gunnery sergeant. Reserve Marines (SMCR, IMA, IRR) are not covered by this bulletin.
What you need to do
If you are a Reserve Marine, nothing. Monitor for a separate Reserve-specific promotion MARADMIN.
If you are an active component selectee or a commander of one, the key actions are:
- Check your seniority number against the projected promotion month table below.
- Ensure you have or will obtain 24 months of obligated service (OBS) before your projected promotion date. You are authorized to submit a reenlistment or extension request now, citing this MARADMIN.
- Commanders must counsel all selected Marines on the OBS requirement within 30 days of this MARADMIN's release.
- If a Marine refuses to extend or reenlist, notify MMPB-11 by naval letter. That Marine loses their seniority number and is ineligible for future boards.
- Commanders must immediately notify MMPB-11 of any intent to delay or revoke a selection.
