Marine Corps Recruiting Command (MCRC) has announced the FY27 board to select active-duty career recruiters for appointment to Chief Warrant Officer 2 (CWO2). This is a narrow program: only active-duty GySgts and above currently holding primary MOS 8412 are eligible. If that's you, the clock is running.
Bottom line: Applications are due to MCRC by 22 June 2026. Incomplete packages and "not recommended" endorsements will disqualify you, so start your chain-of-command routing now.
Who it affects
This board is exclusively for active-duty Marines who:
- Hold primary MOS 8412 (career recruiter) at the grade of GySgt or above
- Have completed a successful tour in a career recruiter billet
- Will have between 8 and 20 years of active naval service as of 28 July 2026 (the board convening date)
Reserve Marines are not eligible for this board. Army or Air Force active-duty time does not count as naval service for the service window calculation.
What you need to do
If you meet the criteria above, here is the sequence to follow:
- Review your OMPF and Master Brief Sheet (MBS) in MOL now. Gaps, missing fitness reports, or unreadable documents must be corrected with Manpower Management Records and Performance Branch (MMRP) before the board receives your file.
- Pull your application package guidelines from
https://www.mcrc.marines.mil/Marine-Officer/Officer-Naval-Enlisted-Applicants/. The tattoo screening form, security clearance verification letter template, and sample application are all there. - Complete the Tattoo Screening Form and Statement of Understanding. If you have body markings, include color photos and written descriptions as required. Photos go in the application only, not the OMPF.
- Have your security manager complete a security clearance verification letter. Notify MCRC immediately if your clearance status changes at any point during the process.
- Route your package through your chain of command up to the first General Officer in your endorsing chain. Every level must endorse. A single "not recommended" from a senior endorser ends your eligibility.
- Upload the complete package via DoD Secure Access File Exchange (SAFE) at
https://www.safe.apps.mil/and email it towarrantofficerboard@marines.usmc.mil. Hard copy submissions are case-by-case only.
Your package must include all endorsements. Packages missing endorsements will not be seen by the board. COs should not submit Marines who do not meet eligibility and do not have an approved waiver.
