The FY26 SSgt Promotion Selection Board convenes on 7 April 2026 at Marine Corps Base Quantico and will run for approximately eight weeks. All Sgts in the eligible zones will be considered. The board has hard cutoffs for PME completion, obligated service, and personal correspondence, and missing any of them has real consequences, including a failure of selection.
Heads up: MARADMIN 051/26 explicitly states it does not apply to the Marine Corps Reserve. Reserve Sgts should watch for a separate RC-specific board message and confirm eligibility with their S-1.
Who it affects
Per paragraph 11 of this MARADMIN: this message is not applicable to the Marine Corps Reserve. That means SMCR, IMA, and IRR Marines are not governed by this particular message.
Active-duty Sgts in promotion zones across a wide range of MOSs are the primary audience. If you are a Reserve Sgt who has been activated or is otherwise in an active-duty status, check with your S-1 on whether this board applies to you.
What you need to do
If you are an active-duty Sgt who this board covers:
- Complete the Marine Corps eLearning Ecosystem (MCeLE) EPME5000 course before 7 April 2026. Failing to finish it means you are ineligible and receive a failure of selection.
- If you have also completed Resident Sergeants Course (T4M), Sergeants Course Seminar (315), or Reserve Sergeants Course (CFF), you will be considered higher-qualified than Marines who only have MCeLE. Make sure those completions are reflected in your record.
- Check your EAS. If your end of active service date falls before 12 July 2026, you will be administratively removed from consideration. Submit a reenlistment or extension request now. This MARADMIN is the cited authority to locally extend Marines for that purpose.
- Ensure your OMPF and Marine Corps Total Force System (MCTFS) record are current. Check the Enlisted Promotions website for the specific update checklist.
- Submit any personal correspondence (letters to the board president) to
smb_manpower_enlisted_promotions@usmc.milno later than 2359 EST on 27 March 2026. Nothing received after that deadline goes to the board.
If you are a Reserve Sgt: nothing to act on from this message. Watch for the RC-specific board MARADMIN and verify with your S-1.
Key dates
- 27 March 2026, 2359 EST: Deadline for personal correspondence to the board president
- 7 April 2026: Board convenes. All PME must be complete by this date.
- 12 July 2026: EAS cutoff. Marines with an EAS before this date will be removed from consideration unless they reenlist or extend.
- Promotion date (when applicable): Selected Marines must have at least 24 months of obligated service remaining from their promotion date to actually be promoted.
