FY26 Staff Sergeant Promotion Board: What Sgts Need to Know

The FY26 SSgt Promotion Selection Board (PSB) convenes 7 April 2026 at Marine Corps Base Quantico and runs for approximately eight weeks. Every Sgt in the Marine Corps is potentially in the pool. Two things require immediate action for some Marines: PME completion and EAS date.

Do this: If your EAS is before 12 July 2026 or you haven't completed the MCeLE EPME5000 course, act before the board convenes or you will incur a failure of selection.

Who it affects

All active and reserve Sgts being considered for promotion to SSgt in FY26. This includes SMCR Marines who may have previously completed the Reserve Sergeants Course (CFF).

What you need to do

PME requirements:

The board uses a tiered PME system. Where you land in that tier affects how competitive you are.

  • Minimum to be eligible: Complete the Marine Corps eLearning Ecosystem (MCeLE) EPME5000 course before 7 April 2026. Fail to complete it and you are ineligible. Full stop.
  • Higher qualified (better competitive standing): Completing any of the following puts you above Marines who only have MCeLE:
    1. Resident Sergeants Course (T4M)
    2. Sergeants Course Seminar (315)
    3. Reserve Sergeants Course (CFF), if you were previously attached to the SMCR
  • Exception: If your BMOS is 8411, 8421, 8156, 0913, 8152, 8154, or 0911, or you've served in an 0911 billet in a permanent personnel capacity within the last 365 days (including OCS Quantico or Newport), MCeLE alone is sufficient. No higher-qualified requirement applies to you.

EAS and obligated service:

  • If your EAS falls before 12 July 2026, you will be removed from consideration and incur a failure of selection unless you reenlist or extend before the board convenes.
  • If selected, you must have 24 months of obligated service remaining from your promotion date. Plan accordingly and consider reenlisting before the board.
  • This MARADMIN is cited as the authority to locally extend Marines to meet EAS requirements.

Records:

Make sure your OMPF and Marine Corps Total Force System (MCTFS) records are current. Details on how to update them are on the Enlisted Promotions website (see below).

MOS competition zones:

The board uses intended MOS (IMOS) to group competitors. If your PMOS is a feeder MOS, you compete for promotion in the corresponding IMOS at the next higher grade. The full feeder-to-IMOS table and zone/cutoff data (DOR and AFADBD by IMOS) are in the official MARADMIN. Check yours carefully.

Letters to the board president:

If you want to submit personal correspondence to the board president, it must be received by 2359 EST, 27 March 2026. Late submissions will not be forwarded. Send to the email address in paragraph 10.a. of the official message.

Accelerated promotion:

Sgts properly recommended for accelerated promotion on fitreps with periods ending between 16 April 2025 and 7 April 2026 will be considered in-zone alongside peers in their MOS. Fitreps must reach Manpower Management Performance Branch (MMPB-23) within 30 days of the reporting period end date.

Key dates

  • 7 April 2026: Board convenes. All PME must be complete before this date.
  • 27 March 2026: Deadline for letters to the board president (2359 EST).
  • 12 July 2026: EAS cutoff. Marines with an EAS before this date must reenlist or extend to remain in consideration.
  • Promotion date + 24 months: Minimum obligated service required if selected.
