The Marine Corps has designated genai.mil as the official enterprise generative AI (GenAI) platform, effective immediately. This supersedes MARADMIN 496/24. NIPRGPT is being shut down. If you've been using it, it's time to move to the new platform.
★ Affects all reservists: GenAI.mil is authorized right now for all Marines on government-furnished equipment, including for Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), but not for PII, PHI, or classified.
Who it affects
All Marines, civilian employees, and contractors using government-furnished equipment. This isn't limited to active duty. If you have access to a government computer and a CAC, this applies to you.
What you need to do
- Go to
https://genai.miland log in with your CAC. - Review the training resources at
https://genai.mil/resources/trainingbefore using it for official work. - Treat every output as a draft. You are accountable for anything you produce using this tool. Verify before you use it officially.
- Stop using NIPRGPT. It's being sunset and will stop being available.
A few things to keep in mind before you start using it:
- You can use it with CUI.
- You cannot use it with PII, PHI, or classified information. This is a hard line.
- The AI can be wrong, biased, or incomplete. That's not a disclaimer, it's how these systems work. Check your outputs.
- Other approved platforms like CamoGPT remain authorized for their specific approved uses. This MARADMIN doesn't kill those.
Key dates
- Now: GenAI.mil is live and authorized for use.
- NIPRGPT sunset: No specific date given. It's in the process of shutting down. Don't build workflows around it.
- Future capabilities (higher-classification networks, Marine Corps data integration, API access): Timeline not yet published.
