NPS Distance Learning Grad Programs Open for AY 2026-2027

HQMC just opened the application window for NPS distance learning graduate degree and certificate programs covering AY 2026-2027. Programs run from Q4 FY26 (July-September 2026) through Q4 FY27 (July-September 2027). There are a lot of programs available, including several aligned to current Force Design priorities.

Heads up: This MARADMIN explicitly states it does not apply to Marine Corps Forces Reserve. If you are SMCR, IMA, or IRR, this program is not open to you under this message.

Who it affects

Per paragraph 9, this MARADMIN is not applicable to the Marine Corps Forces Reserve. Full stop.

For active-duty readers who may be on active orders or transitioning: the primary eligible population is active-duty Marines in grades O1-O5, CWO2-CWO4, and E6-E7. Other grades may be considered case by case. You must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and have enough time in service to complete the program and fulfill the resulting service obligation.

Marines who are above-zone for promotion are not eligible. Marines who already earned a graduate degree through NPS or via Tuition Assistance are not eligible for another funded degree, but can apply to certificate programs.

What you need to do

If you are an active-duty Marine and this applies to you:

  1. Browse available programs at https://online.nps.edu/offerings.
  2. Check the academic calendar at https://nps.edu/web/registrar/calendar to find the quarter start date for your desired program.
  3. Submit your NPS online application before the start of the quarter preceding your desired program start. General admissions info is at https://nps.edu/web/admissions.
  4. Mail or electronically send official transcripts from every college or university you attended. Mail to: Admissions Office (Official Transcripts), Naval Postgraduate School, 1 University Circle, Herrmann Hall Room 046, Monterey, CA 93943-5100. Or send electronically through your institution to admissions@nps.edu.
  5. If applying to curricula 311, 312, or 613, contact NPS Admissions directly first. Those programs have special requirements.

Note: The 805 Executive MBA, PhD technical programs, and any program you are not qualified for (or cannot receive a waiver for) are not available under this message.

If selected, you will be required to include a formal service obligation statement in your application. Obligation is 36 months for programs 12 months or shorter, and up to 48 months for programs longer than one year. The obligation clock starts at program completion.
